Residency 2021 - present
Gareth Kemp is our latest artist in residence, as part of the New Contemporaries Studio Bursary.
Kemp is a painter, born in Wirral and living in Liverpool.
He graduated from Staffordshire University in 1995 with a BA (Hons) in History of Design and the Visual Arts, and studied his MA in Art History at Liverpool University in 1997. He completed the Turps Banana Art school between 2014-2017. In 2016 he was selected for the John Moores Painting Prize and in 2018 he was selected for New Contemporaries.
We first exhibited his work at Bluecoat in 2008 as part of our exhibition Next Up: Liverpool Art Now and we're delighted to welcome him to our studios.
He said -
"I plan to use my time at the Bluecoat for a period of professional development, research and making a new body of work. I look forward to inviting curators, gallerists and fellow artists for studio visits as the work develops."
