Ben has had a studio at the Bluecoat since 2001. He studied painting at Manchester Metropolitan University and later for a Masters in site-specific Fine Art at Liverpool John Moores.
His work has mostly been exhibited independently in self-curated shows, either in studios, abandoned spaces or as a residency.
Ben is currently working on immersive environments that are rooted & conceived in the basics of drawing, small paintings on paper and maquettes. He aims to create spaces that are not simply temporary theatrical sets to illustrate an idea, but built upon prolonged investigations that embody a method of making as thought. He wants to create emotional spaces that provoke feelings, where people can acquire a sense of freedom and be lost in contemplation.
