The 2023 Lowry Lounge Programme
2023
The thirteenth annual celebration of Malcolm Lowry comprised a walking tour of Hilbre Island preceded by a morning of talks at the arts centre. Robert Sheppard read from his new book, Doubly Stolen Fire (Aquifer Books), the second part of which comprises writings made in response to the life, death, work and landscapes of Lowry that Robert had performed in whole or in part at previous Lounges. This was followed by an in-conversation with another 'Firminist', writer Ailsa Cox.
There were updates from Alan Dunn on the next phase of Hear Us O Lord From Heaven Thy Dwelling Place and Helen Tookey on her article about Lowry's 'last notebook', 'Special Reality', now available on open access. Bryan Biggs presented the Bluecoat's new online archive charting 14-years of Lowry programming, before Helen introduced the afternoon's trip to Hilbre Island and its significance for Lowry, a context explored in Colin Dilnot's chapter 'Lowry's Wirral' in Malcolm Lowry: From the Mersey to the World (2009).
