Stairs to Bluecoat's Concert Hall
1970
These stairs led to the Concert Hall (the present Bistro) and were constructed in 1927. They were designed by architects Shepheard and Bower, who led on the restoration after Bluecoat Society of Arts was established as new owners of the building. Previously the approach to upstairs was via two wooden staircases in each of the front wings, one of which survives.
The concrete stairs, photographed probably in the 1950s (by Browns, of Sandown Lane, Wavertree), were demolished during the building's major capital development in the lead up to Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture, 2008.
