Sandon Artist George Harris

1920

George Harris (1878 - 1929) was a prominent Sandon Studios Society artist, creating illustrations and cartoons for its publications, as well as being a celebrated theatre designer. His career started at Liverpool Repertory Theatre (later Liverpool Playhouse) with long-term collaborator Basil Dean, before success in London and New York. He regarded his Bluecoat studio as his home, and here he produced costumes and designs for Sandon cabarets and parties. This image is from a book (1930, Nisbet & Co, London), compiled by friends as a tribute after his death, that includes a selection of his designs.
