Working in collaboration with artist Juginder Lamba, the Bluecoat coordinated an exhibition series in response to the 50th anniversary in 1997 of the independence of India and partition of Pakistan. Several galleries in the North and midlands of England participated and there was a follow up conference in Birmingham. Themes of independence were further explored in a Bluecoat publication, Independent Practices in 2000.
