Independent curator Kyle Percy, together with poet Chris McCabe, Head Librarian at the National Poetry Library, Southbank Centre, London, and Bluecoat's Artistic Director, Bryan Biggs, worked on a Captain Beefheart Weekend, staged at the arts centre in November 2017. Throughout the weekend, and continuing for a few weeks, was an archive display relating to Beefheart's first ever painting show at the arts centre in 1972. It was accompanied by Beefheart-inspired art from members of Blue Room, Bluecoat’s inclusive arts programme for learning disabled artists, who meet weekly at the venue to explore the exhibitions, collaborate and create their own art work.
