Book cover: Malcolm Lowry, 'From the Mersey to the World'
2009
This book, published by Liverpool University Press for the Bluecoat’s Malcolm Lowry centenary programme, was edited by Bryan Biggs and Helen Tookey. They would continue to coordinate Lowry-related activities each year including coediting another book, published in 2020.
Malcolm Lowry: From The Mersey To The World comprises a range of creative and critical approaches to Lowry and his work through twelve commissioned essays, with a focus on place and journeys. Contributors from the UK, Europe, Canada and Mexico reflect both on Lowry’s ‘voyage that never ends’ and on their own journeys with and through Lowry’s work.
The book also demonstrates Lowry’s influence on visual artists and includes full-colour illustrations, many from artists in the exhibition.
