Art schools have been a fruitful environment for UK pop, while music itself features in much contemporary art. On 6 March, against the backdrop of our gallery exhibition, The Art Schools of North West England by John Beck and Matthew Cornford, Bluecoat's Artistic Director Bryan Biggs charts this relationship, focusing on archetypal 1970s art school band, Deaf School, who emerged from Liverpool Art School, as well as popular music’s continuing vitality to inform, enliven and disrupt visual arts practice.
