This three-year opportunity will examine the role of the Bluecoat in supporting and enabling people from working-class backgrounds to develop careers in the predominantly middle-class world of the arts. To date, there has been little research into the role of arts institutions in this area, and this project will compare different decades of the Bluecoat’s exhibitions history since the 1960s. It will draw on the arts centre’s archives and other resources to conduct original research, which we will then help disseminate.
We are keen to attract a wide range of candidates who are particularly interested in the arts, the sociology of class and modern history.
